2013 Thanks to Dave W. for the one above and the one below. Notice the lugs for fitting the travelling crane. That is why the extra height was needed – the planned height, coincidentally, is about the height of the track fitted to  the lugs.

Below is one taken about 7 weeks after work restarted on the enclosure.

Early 2014 and they want to build another. Permitted height at the river end is 15.5m and the other 12.8m.

There was no plan for the traveling crane either – take a peek inside and see how neatly fits into the extra ‘headroom’.

This opening was soon closed up when it was pointed out to UK Docks that one of the conditions of use was that the enclosure should be closed completely to stop the emissions from shot blasting and paint particulates escaping and covering the neighbours.

Doors were also fitted to the other end but cannot be closed when they are servicing the Shields Ferry until they lengthened the shed in 2017.

Big Shed on the TyneView from the River. Incidentally Arbiea House (right of steeple) was built a story or about 3m higher than planned according to people living nearby. They had similar troubles as we are experiencing with the enclosure, cover or shed. The drawins tell us that it is a slipway enclosure.
