Dear all,

It would seem that Mr Burrell has taken to marking his emails to both myself and Julie as RESTRICTED so I guess I’m not allowed to share them with everybody.
His reply below is evidence that UK Docks can and will with STC endorsement do whatever they want with total disregard to us all. Can I ask that everybody emails their complaints regarding noise and working practise to STC so we build up a case.
Regards,

There are no outright restrictions on UK Docks undertaking work in the open air, particularly during normal daytime working hours. However, as you have made a complaint regarding this I visited the site yesterday with the manager and he advised that they had been in the process of fabricating a steel frame, and following your complaint would relocate the rest of that activity to a lower part of the site to make use of the shielding effect of the land form near to the river. The equipment being used was not unusual for the purposes and it is not particularly easy to mitigate the generation of noise associated with the work required.
Regards
Kevin Burrell

UK Docks continue today to work on a large steel structure outside the fabrication shop in the open air. Can you advise on what action is being taken. This is not the first time UK Docks have worked in the open air and I have major concerns regarding their ongoing practise of totally disregarding their neighbours.
The yard acts as an amphitheatre which channels noise up the bank into our house. This will not change and I fear Mr Rutherfords approach offered at this weeks Planning Committee is to wait till an complaint is made and address it rather than to prevent the problem in the first instance.
The noise pollution from UK Docks is having a very negative effect on my health which does not seem to be of any importance to STC.      I am keeping my diary, but again shutting the gate after the horse has bolted is how I am left feeling.

Yours sincerely,

  1. moderator says:

When I raised a complaint about Sunday working it was not registered but passed to Mr Burrell’s section to deal with as noise.
He is now marking his emails [NOT PROTECTIVELY MARKED]

  2. Mick Dawson says:

Use of [RESTRICTED] is ‘for office use only’ like [PROTECT]. This was used in correspondence a year or so ago by Planning when they were giving information that may conflict.
