2001

Date Action Grant
2001 Work began with the buildings foundations and they were signed off as being complete by the Council’s Building Control Section on 26-Feb-01. That are set to take frame work (fitted over a long week-end in Sept 2013) nearly a metre wider than planned appears to have been overlooked. It later became clear that Tyne Slipway and Engineering company had  not complied with the conditions of the planning permission.
South Shields Gazette 9-Sep-13. The work may have met the legal requirements but to say that to mean that it had been approved  was fraudulent misrepresentation

Footings laid to beat the requirement that work had to begin within five years or the grant would lapse. These footings at 13.1m overall are about a metre wider than any plans allow for and were signed off on 26-Feb-2001. There is no official paperwork available from this time although it appears from examination of the discs on the slipway development there were letters of complaint from addresses in Greens Place, Harbour View and from the Secretary of the Boat Club and it probably started when the Wilsons aquired the site on River Drive.

5.9.08 ‘City of Sunderland’ crashes into Tyne Slipway or does it?

Car Tansporter “City of Sunderland” loses power in the Tyne and reputedly hit the slipway on River Drive.
There do not seem to be any records of this – perhaps because of the name and embarrassment to the Port of Tyne.

Thanks to a Resident of
Greens Place for these.tyneslip3tyneslip1
